The Council's Dog Warden will be offering a discounted rate micro–chipping service for dogs and cats next week. Bring your pets to the Esplanade by the dog exercise area between Monday and Thursday from 10:00 – 15:00 to take advantage of this offer. It can save time and worry if your pets go missing or are injured and costs just £11.
Owners will also be able to register cats and dogs with the Council for £4, which can help your pet be identified via a tag.
Weymouth's outstanding beach Donkeys have taken 3 top titles in this year's Donkey Sanctuary awards. Maggie Aldridge, the owner of Weymouth's Donkeys received the awards for 'Regional Best Group, Best Single and Best Trimmed Feet' from Mayor Paul Kimber and Mark Kerr from the Donkey Sanctuary based in Sidmouth, Devon , whilst Amy Gray aged 3 enjoyed a ride.
The awards aim to recognise high standards of animal welfare and are based on the donkey's health and strength, along with their placid nature and most importantly their happiness in their work.
Multi Culture Club – 18 September at the Old Town HallThis September, an event featuring international music, food, film and dancing is being brought to you by the South West Multi Cultural Network, in partnership with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
The event will launch a new volunteer run initiative in the Borough called 'Community Contacts', which will provide a friendly point of contact for people of black or other minority ethnic backgrounds living in Weymouth & Portland.
The event will run from 2pm – 11pm, and information about other services, including a new 'Language Cafe' schools initiative run by Dorset County Council.

Councils to Share ServicesStaff from West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council will soon find themselves working together in the biggest shake up in local government in the area for 35 years. The move will improve services and save around 8.5 million over the next five years.
There will be a single officer structure for both councils, including one chief executive and one management team. The joint workforce will deliver services to 162,000 residents, over 6,100 businesses and the millions of visitors to the areas governed by the two councils.
Shedding some light on Weymouth Esplanade The council recently held a public exhibition to inform the community about a new artist–designed lighting scheme for Weymouth Esplanade. There was an extremely positive reaction from residents who came to see the designs, which will create veils of light across the sea, and will complement existing features of the esplanade.
The innovative scheme has been proposed as part of the overall Weymouth Seafront Regeneration Programme. The bulbs used in the existing fairy lights are no longer obtainable, which means that they are now too outdated to maintain. Funding is being provided by the Regional Development Agency and the Arts Council for England.
